2027 Polaris RZR Pro R Boost eligible for new classes

The crown jewel of Polaris’ 2027 off-road lineup revealed on Monday is the new RZR Pro R Boost. It’s such a groundbreaking upgrade from the regular model that SCORE created the Pro UTV Ultimate class for it to enter. It is also eligible for competition in the B2 Desert category at King of the Hammers, while the American Off-Road Racing Championship plans to devise a new category too.

For comparison, the regular RZR Pro R Factory competes in Pro UTV Open for SCORE and B3 UTV Open at Hammers. This will remain the case even with the Boost’s release, with Polaris explaining that the “current Polaris RZR Pro R Factory platform remains competitive, fully supported and will continue to be raced and developed by both factory and customer teams.”

The Boost uses a 1,997cc ProStar Fury 2.0L Turbo engine that produces 275 horsepower, as opposed to the base RZR’s range between 225 and 255 hp. It also comes with a new power-to-weight ratio and increased torque for better acceleration, a new clutch system with better airflow and cooling fins, and a redesigned dual-radiator system. The driveline and front drive have also been strengthened to better withstand the increased horsepower.

The Boost comes in two- and four-seater versions along with Ultimate and Ultra trims. Ultimate has desert-based components like G-out protection, while Ultra uses active sway bar links and comes with a carbon fiber hood. Ultra had been introduced earlier this year on the RZR Pro R.

The rest of the off-road lineup has also received updates for the new model year. The Xpedition comes with Numatix Controlled CVT, which is promoted as the first pneumatic continuously variable transmission and regulated by air pressure. Its powertrain also reduces the vehicle’s RPMs, which Polaris proclaims will make the ride up to 40% quieter but still offering good acceleration.

On the ATV side, the Sportsman 500 comes with a 9.5″ independent rear suspension and a new AWD system with auto-locking front drive that automatically engages when it senses tire slip.
