If you’ve been reading our stories long enough, or just look at the front page of this website, you know we love our long-form stories to balance out the routine news coverage.

These are often us retelling historical events in depth, but can also include quasi-blog posts about places that our editor has visited recently such as conventions, discussing his most recent diecast purchase, and so on. In some cases, a regular story can be expanded into an in-depth look, such as our Red Bull Romaniacs recap being primarily about the region’s coal mines or Baja Poland focusing on Borne Sulinowo’s military history.

Of course, the formermost is what makes up the bulk of such content. Since our intrepid reporter is a history major (as evidenced by the two Semi-Hiatus History Months), he likes to keep this side sharp by combining his two big interests together and discussing moments from off-road racing history. Unsurprisingly, these are often exceptionally long pieces. Heck, it’s why we have a multi-part series detailing rally raid in the Soviet Union.

From the first such write-up, when we looked at a 1937 Nissan that was used to celebrate Christmas in 1942, we lumped them into the Features category alongside interviews, announcements by yours truly, and posts written by racers. That’s why they appear in the top article carousel on the home page.

However, we wanted to make it easier for you to access these long-form stories without having to wade through the others.

Thus, we’ve created the Storytime subcategory. Admittedly, it’s probably not the snappiest name, but the point is that if you want to read something more like narrative journalism or a research paper about this sport’s rich history, there’s now a dedicated section for them. You can access the category either by using the navigation bars at the top and bottom of the site or by clicking on the corresponding category in the “About this article” section at the end of each post.

Graduation might be around the corner for Justin, but that doesn’t mean he’s stopping being a history nerd anytime soon. In fact, he’s already got some more of these cooking, so stay tuned.
