SVR has started work on the 53rd and final chassis for the Toyota Hilux IMT Evo, ending a legendary run for the series that includes four Dakar Rally wins and three World Rally-Raid Championships. The new Hilux will debut in 2027, compliant with the updated FIA regulations.

The IMT Evo model is also known as the GR DKR Hilux Evo and was fielded by Toyota Gazoo Racing’s rally raid division throughout its existence. It was built by Imperial and Overdrive Racing before being taken over by SVR, then known as SVR Hallspeed.

The European-based TGR began fielding a new DKR GR Hilux in 2026 that was built in partnership with Overdrive and former SVR owner Glyn Hall. SVR, on the other hand, continued producing the IMT Evo for Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa while also fielding Hiluxes under its own banner.

“The car has been great to us globally in winning four Dakars and four World Championships,” TGRSA boss Shameer Variawa said. “Effective drivers and privateers drove in the cars. It’s been good to the company, it’s been good for Toyota with all its success, and now we move on to the the next generation.”

By conforming to 2027 FIA regulations, the new Hilux will have a wide body and a seat attenuator device, the latter newly mandated by the federation. Variawa noted it was built after “thousands and thousands of hours of R&D and learning over the years.”

TGRSA currently fields the IMT Evo in the W2RC for Variawa’s son Saood, Guy Botterill, and João Ferreira.
