RZR Factory Racing (formerly Polaris Factory Racing) will run it back with the trio of Max Eddy Jr., Brock Heger, and Cayden MacCachren for the 2025 season. However, the team has also added some more firepower for King of the Hammers.
Dylan Schmoke will drive a fourth Gen-2 Polaris RZR Pro R Factory alongside the trio in the Toyo Tires Desert Challenge on February 1. Five days later, on February 6, Bryce Menzies will team up with Heger for the Can-Am UTV Hammers Championship; they will pilot the Gen-1 RZR Pro R Factory model.
Schmoke previously served as PFR’s co-driver and reserve, coming in to replace team boss Craig Scanlon in the closing stretch of the 2024 Baja 400. With Scanlon stepping back from the driver’s seat to focus on running the team, Schmoke will use 2025 as what Polaris called a “tryout season” to earn his spot on the factory roster.
Menzies is one of the top off-road racers in the business, mainly known for his Trophy Truck exploits as the 2023 SCORE TT champion. Still, he does occasionally try his hand at UTVs as a Polaris-sponsored driver. He retired from the 2024 UTV Hammers race.
Heger and Eddy have a short turnaround as they will be in Johnson Valley three weeks removed from winning the Dakar Rally in the SSV class. The former won the Pro Stock Turbo class at the 2024 UTV Hammers and was the Desert Challenge’s Limited Race winner; he is also the twice reigning SCORE Pro UTV Open champion and defending Baja 1000 UTV winner. Eddy was Heger’s navigator at Dakar and the 2024 UTV Hammers Championship, while finishing right behind Heger in the Desert Challenge.
MacCachren was the 2023 Baja 1000 UTV overall winner and finished seventh in last year’s SCORE Pro UTV Open standings. He hopes to rebound after a disappointing 2024 Desert Challenge.
While RZR Factory Racing is Polaris’ works team, the manufacturer is also supporting affiliated drivers throughout the 2025 season like Branden Sims, Wayne and Kristen Matlock, and Mitch Guthrie. The group will all pit together for desert races, which team technical director Alex Scheuerell described as like a “big community”.
Besides racing, Polaris will celebrate Heger and Eddy’s Dakar win on Thursday, February 6 at The Forty in Johnson Valley.
