The inaugural Rallye du Maroc Classic will span 2,176 kilometers in total. 1,012 km will be Selective Sections, comprising 47% of the course. Of the remaining 1,164 to be used as liaisons, 758 km are to get to the special (designated as Road Section A) while 426 are to return to the bivouac (Section B).
The course is shorter than the route to be used by the main Rallye du Maroc, which clocks in at 2,838 km for FIA and 2,773 km for FIM. Otherwise, the vintage racers will still visit the same bivouacs and start and finish in the same locations as their modern counterparts. Unlike the FIA, the Classic will run the Prologue stage.
The rulebook is mostly the same as the Dakar Classic’s, down to the use of Regularity, Navigation, and Dune Tests. Unlike Dakar, Morocco has an Open category for vehicles built after 2005. 455 vehicles are eligible for the race, though organizer Pro Dunes can permit others if they “have never taken part in rally raids but are deemed historically relevant.”
Pro Dunes announced the RdM Classic in January shortly before the Dakar Classic began. Both races form the Classic Series Trophy.
