It’s been over a decade since a desert racing series last competed on both sides of the border between the United States and Mexico. The NORRA Legacy World Championship Series hopes to change that with a six-race inaugural season in 2027.
Despite the name, the new series is not a merger between NORRA and the Legacy Racing Association. Rather, both describe it as a “strategic partnership” in which NORRA and Legacy will maintain their respective identities while offering a unified trophy and points system.
NORRA exclusively races in Baja California with two rally-style rounds in the flagship Mexican 1000 and NORRA 500. Legacy, meanwhile, is a desert racing championship across the Western United States.
A proper calendar will be released in the near future, though the tentative plan includes six dates with three each in the US and Mexico.
Legacy released its six-round 2027 schedule in August. Only the Parker Dam 500, originally scheduled as Legacy’s season opener on February 17–21, is confirmed for the new series but without specific days. Laughlin is slotted as the penultimate date in September; although the Battleground is usually in Laughlin, it was moved to Caliente for April 8–11, 2027. A December race in Nevada will be the final NORRA Legacy Series race of the year, which correlates with Legacy’s Desert Showdown in Pahrump on December 2–5.
The 2027 LRA schedule also included the Baja Nevada on June 24–27, Dirt Rebelution in Utah on August 27–29, and the Night Race on October 7–10. Neither series has confirmed if these are gone or if Legacy will host them independently.
Across the border, NORRA hosts the Mexican 1000 and NORRA 500 annually. For 2027, the former has been transformed into the Baja 10 Day Rally to celebrate NORRA’s 60th anniversary. There is also a new date in San Felipe that’ll serve as the NORRA Legacy Series’ season opener, created in August to make up for SCORE leaving the city for Mexicali.
